Trash Compactor Repair

A trash compactor is a less common appliance but it is a useful one, reducing the volume of garbage produced by your household by a significant amount.  Trash compactors are prone to several problems including:
  • Trash Compactor Wont Start
  • Trash Compactor is Making Loud Noises
  • Trash Compactor Wont Turn Off
  • Trash Compactor Door/Drawer wont open

Unit Wont Start- the cause for this is often electrical.  It can be a problem with the start switch, safety switch or the door switch.  If you have the tools and the expertise to check to see if the switches are the problem the start there.  If you don’t this is a good time to contact us for assistance.

Loud Noises Coming From Trash Compactor- this can sometime be caused by the  trunnion nut.  If you have a manual for your compactor then you can look to see where the nut is located.  You can then inspect it to see if it needs replacement or lubrication.  The noise could also be coming from the gear box.  Again this could require lubrication.

Compactor Wont Turn Off- this is another issue that could be caused by the start switch.  Check first to ensure that the switch has not gotten jammed in the on position.  Failing that the problem could be a faulty switch.  This issue could also be related to a faulty directional switch that could potentially need to be replaced.

Door/Drawer Wont Open- this can often be caused by a door latch.  If the latch is stuck you may be able to slide a butter knife or flat screwdriver into it to release the latch.  Then you can inspect to see if the latch needs replacement.  Our repair technicians are happy to order and install any parts you may require.
